Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest selling carmaker has been launched “Maruti Suzuki Ciaz” in the Indian market on the average selling price. Based on a new platform designed to maximize performance and efficiency, the new Ciaz represents Maruti in the hotly contested C-segment sedan market. It replaces the SX4 sedan which has been on sale since 2006.

Engine And Specifications

The Ciaz comes with a 1.3 litre multijet diesel engine and a 1.4 litre K-Series engine which is the same lineup as we see on Ertiga. But these engines have been technically improved and use low-friction mechanisms to improve upon the performance and mileage. The peak power developed by the diesel engine is around 89 BHP and peak torque is 200 Nm while the petrol engine develops peak power of 91 BHP and peak torque of 130 Nm. The ARAI-certified mileage of the Maruti Ciaz Diesel is 26.3 KMPL while the petrol engine on the Ciaz delivers 20.73 KMPL.

As compared to its rivals the Ciaz makes the least power and torque, taking both the diesel and petrol powerplants into consideration. It seems Maruti has taken frugality into precedence over performance at first glance; we do not know how much the car weighs, this could affect the performance of the car.

The Ciaz is the most spacious car, in terms of cabin space, in its segment. Its is the longest, widest car in the segment while being dwarfed by the Honda City in terms of height. Having the longest wheelbase also means that it will be high on cabin space as well as luggage space.

Exteriors

Exteriors of Maruti Ciaz bear chrome on the front grille, dual headlamps with projector unit on one, front fog lamps, Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) with integrated turn indicators and arrow-shaped tail lamps. The concept version of this variant was observed at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, where it generated considerable interest. while the concept carried dual exhaust pipes, spy shots reveal that the production version will have a single exhaust.

Wheelbase of Maruti Ciaz sedan is claimed to be 4545mm, which will result in significant legroom for rear passengers. This would certainly put the Ciaz in the same league suitable for chauffeured ride. This could pit it against the Nissan Sunny. At present, the existing competition for Maruti Ciaz includes Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Fiat Linea, Nissan Sunny and Renault Scala.

Interiors

From inside, the rear seat gets a centre arm rest, cup holders and dedicated AC vents. Inspiration for interiors of this vehicle seem to have been drawn from Maruti Kizashi, especially dual tone (black & beige) panels with wood finish trim on dashboard. Other major features include an In-Car Entertainment (ICE) system with 6 speakers as Standard, driver arm rest, electric adjustable door wing mirrors, remote central locking, dead pedal, front & rear power windows, rear defogger and a speed sensing door auto-lock.
